Attorney General & Minister of Legal Affairs, Mohabir Anil Nandlall SC MP, and Minister of Labour and Manpower Planning, Keoma Griffith, convened a meeting on Friday to advance the resolution of land regularisation matters raised during the Presidential outreaches across Guyana.
The meeting included representatives and technical officers from the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning, the Ministry of Legal Affairs and the Central Housing and Planning Authority. These representatives will constitute the coordination team responsible for overseeing and advancing all aspects of the regularisation exercise.
The exercise is intended to facilitate the issuance of transports or certificates of title, as applicable, to persons legitimately occupying lands within the affected communities, including co-operative societies, or former co-operative societies.
Regularisation has commenced in Devonshire Castle, Paradise, Jib, Westbury and Walton Hall on the Essequibo Coast and Friendship on the Pomeroon River; Melanie, Foulis and Vigilance on the East Coast of Demerara and several villages in West Coast Berbice.
Efforts are also underway for several co-operative societies along the East Bank corridor, including those falling within Kuru Kururu, Hauraruni and Yarrowkabra. A clear roadmap and timeline have been established, with the relevant investigations expected to be concluded by the end of August, 2026.
Public outreaches will form an essential part of the process, ensuring that residents are properly informed about the regularisation exercise, the steps to be undertaken and their respective responsibilities.
The Government of Guyana is bearing the costs in relation to these undertakings.
