GDF provides aerial support to contain Moblissa savannah fire 

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has deployed Air Corps assets to support the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) in containing a savannah fire near Moblissa Ranch, along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.

Following reports of the fire, the GDF conducted an aerial reconnaissance of the area and identified several active fire pockets.

The GFS commenced ground firefighting operations, while the Air Corps deployed a helicopter fitted with specialised aerial firefighting equipment to deliver water onto areas affected by the fire.

The aircrew, led by Lieutenant Colonel Anson Weekes, with Sergeant Clyde Jones operating the firefighting equipment, had completed nearly thirty water drops. The aerial water drops reduced the fire’s intensity, allowing ground crews to continue their efforts.

Representatives of the GDF and GFS will continue to conduct joint aerial assessments of the affected area and coordinate air and ground firefighting operations.

Operations remain ongoing as the GFS continues ground firefighting operations, with the GDF providing aerial support to contain the fire and limit its spread. Both services will continue to coordinate their efforts and employ available resources as required to protect nearby communities and property.
