Former Vice President and Minister of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs under the previous APNU+AFC administration, Sydney Allicock, has endorsed President Dr Irfaan Ali for a second term.
He said this decision was made after consulting with colleagues across the country, including those in hinterland communities – the constituency he represents.
Allicock said that if President Ali is given another chance as President, Guyana can look forward to much more greater achievements.
“What I would love to see is the unification of this country to benefit from what Guyana has to offer,” he told the News Room on Wednesday.
Allicock, who is a member of the Guyana Action Party (GAP) – one of the smaller parties in the APNU coalition – also lamented about the ongoing power fighting within the APNU/PNC and AFC.
Allicock is the latest in a number of opposition members who have come forward to endorse President Ali and the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) for a second term in office.
Allicock, who hails from the North Rupununi, Region Nine, served as minister of indigenous peoples’ affairs and fourth Vice President of the country from 2015-2020.
