[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 20-year-old father of one accused of robbing a man at gun-point last year, was remanded to prison on Monday, January 26 by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on a robbery under arms charge.

Nickosie Gritten of Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that on April 9, 2014, while in the company of others and armed with a gun, he robbed Derrick Hinds of his $400,000 gold chain, $250,000 gold ring and $100,000 cash.

Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones did not present facts in Court.

He was represented by Attorney-at-Law Ronald Burch-Smith, who told the Court that his client is an Assistant Manager at a hotel in Paramaribo, Suriname.

According to Burch-Smith, Gritten has another matter before the Court and has attending every hearing. He said he did not pose a flight risk and that his client is willing to subject to conditions for bail.

The Lawyer noted that Gritten has been in custody for the past six days and was assaulted by one of the ranks at Court yesterday.

Bail was objected to by the Prosecutor who cited the nature and gravity of the charge as well as the penalty it attracts. He said too that the defendant orally confessed to committing murder and that file is at the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

Bail was refused and the case will be called again on February 09.
