Police are now investigating a mysterious fire which consumed a home located in Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice during the late hours of Sunday evening.

Based on reports received, the fire of unknown origin began in the bedroom of the one story concrete home at around 22:30hrs.

Inews was reliably informed that no one was at home during the ordeal but, the neighbours in the area who noticed the blaze informed the fire service.

Eyewitnesses told the media that the sound of an explosion erupting from inside of the building made them aware of the fire.

While persons commended the Guyana Fire Service for their prompt response, they were unable to save the building which was scorched significantly on the inside and had its roof burnt completely, leaving millions in losses.

The owners of the home were not immediately available to speak to Inews on Monday.

Investigations are ongoing.
