Sections of the East Coast Demerara (ECD) corridor in the vicinity of Vigilance are currently being blocked by burning debris following the alleged detention of the wife and brother of US-sanctioned businessman Mark Cromwell, who are being questioned in connection with the disappearance of two Surinamese nationals.
Police stated that the situation has engaged the attention of anti-crime police, who are working to facilitate the safe movement of motorists and maintain access through the affected area.
As such, members of the public are strongly advised to avoid the affected area unless travel is absolutely necessary.
“Motorists approaching Vigilance should exercise heightened caution, reduce speed, remain alert for changing road conditions, and strictly comply with all instructions from police ranks on the ground,” the police stated in a release.
Further, persons are urged not to stop, gather, or otherwise obstruct the roadway or police operations. Additionally, parents and guardians are encouraged to ensure that children remain away from the affected area. Meanwhile, the public is asked to remain calm and allow police ranks to carry out their duties safely and without obstruction.
Twenty-eight-year-old Van Dalen Lorenzo and 29-year-old Derryl Danillo went missing on August 28 in Clara Sluice, Nickerie, Suriname, where they reportedly boarded a boat to Guyana. Although initial searches and interviews conducted by authorities reportedly failed to produce any direct leads, it was reported that the two men safely arrived in Guyana.
They were reportedly seen entering a black station wagon taxi after arriving in the country but have not been seen since.
