Early morning fire destroys 3-storey building at Bartica

The building on fire in the wee hours of Saturday

An early morning fire on Saturday has ravaged a building owned by Ryan Mahadeo and Emily Mahadeo along 2nd Avenue, Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).

According to reports received, the Bartica Fire Station was alerted at about 02:29h that a building was on fire at the stated location.

As such, a water tender and a water carrier were immediately deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, the three-storey concrete and timber structure was already fully engulfed.

However, despite efforts by the firefighters to put out the blaze, the building and its contents were completely destroyed.

Nevertheless, with the assistance of four jets operating in conjunction with both responding appliances, the inferno was contained to one location.  The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but an investigation has been launched.
