Bradley Sampson also known as “Doggie” appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court today to face a series of charges in relation to an incident at the Square of the Revolution on Tuesday.
He was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful carrying of a firearm with intent to cause terror or alarm to the public, disorderly behaviour, using obscene language, threatening behaviour, and unlawful wounding.
Sampson was released on a total of $270,000 bail and will have to return to court on August 15.
Sampson, a well-known organiser and activist affiliated with We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) led by US-sanctioned businessman Azruddin Mohamed, was wanted by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) in connection with a series of serious offences.
He surrendered to the police yesterday in the company of his lawyer.
Sampson was wanted in connection with the alleged assault of a woman with a firearm during a dispute over payment for political mobilisation efforts on Nomination Day.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at the Square of the Revolution, Brickdam.
It is alleged that at the location, payments were to be distributed to persons who were mobilised to march with WIN on Nomination Day.
Videos circulating on social media captured Sampson involved in a violent altercation at the scene over what is alleged to be underpayment of persons who participated in the march.
The woman had filed a report at the police station, prompting the investigation.
However, the court was informed today that the woman no longer wanted to pursue the matter, but the police decided to still proceed with the charges.
