Aaron Wilson, a 19-year-old gold miner from Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) was today slapped with several charges in relation to a series of break-ins and thefts within the township.
Wilson, who was arrested on October 3, was charged with Break and Enter and Larceny, Simple Larceny, and Break and Enter with Intent to Commit a Felony. The charges were laid under Sections 229(a), 228, and 164 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.
Wilson appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohammed at the Bartica Magistrates’ Court today, where the charges were read to him.
He pleaded guilty to all three offences and was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment on each charge. The sentences are to run concurrently.
The offences were committed against Roy Defreitas, Vashisht Ramillian, and the St. John the Baptist Primary School in Bartica.
