Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo today announced significant increases in the government subventions for local government bodies.
He made the announcement during a meeting with stakeholders at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.
According to Jagdeo, every Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) will receive thirty million dollars ($30,000,000) as their new annual subvention while every Municipality will receive fifty million dollars ($50,000,000) as their new annual subvention.
Previously, NDCs got subventions of about $5 million, while municipalities got about $18 million.
