Residents of Victory Valley can expect continued investment in infrastructure, business development, housing, and community empowerment, as President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali outlined the next phase of the government’s development agenda during Wednesday’s Cabinet outreach to Region 10.
“We have been able to build this relationship based on trust, based on commitment, based on hard work, and working together,” the president said, noting that the government’s investments in Region 10 have increased significantly over the past five years.
He said the focus now is on expanding economic opportunities for residents, particularly young people and women, through agriculture, agro-processing, tourism and small-business development.
“We want to work with clusters of persons so that we can build projects, we can increase productivity, we can enhance livelihood, and we can enhance income,” President Ali said.
The president outlined plans to bring groups together to access opportunities through the Guyana Development Bank and other government programmes.
Among the initiatives identified for Linden is the development of business districts on both sides of the river, where small businesses could be clustered and supported with infrastructure, training and access to financing.
President Ali said the government is also looking to establish an agro-investment park in Linden, equipped with modern technology, irrigation and extension services.
The head of state encouraged young people to become involved in areas such as tunnel-house farming, swine production, agro-processing and honey production.
“The only way we can grow is if we build the productive capacity of the community. If we invest in the productive capacity,” he said.
The president also announced that work on the Victory Valley community centre will be accelerated, with the government targeting completion within nine months.
The facility is expected to serve as a training and education hub while providing opportunities for women and youth empowerment.
President Ali also pointed to major infrastructure projects expected to strengthen Linden’s role in the national economy, including road improvements, the Linden-Soesdyke Highway, the Lethem corridor and greater connectivity with the hinterland and Northern Brazil.
He said the developments are expected to create new economic opportunities for Lindeners while increasing the value and potential of land and businesses in the region.
“If you believe you have seen transformation in Linden, you have not really seen the massive transformation that still lies ahead,” President Ali told residents.

He was adamant that the next phase of development must focus on empowerment, productivity and improving the quality of life of residents.
“We are interested in the next phase of development, advancement, empowerment, and transformation for the people of Linden and the people here in Victory Valley,” President Ali said. [DPI]
