A 23-year-old Venezuelan woman, Andreina Nunez, has been hospitalised after she was injured during a confrontation with another female.
The incident occurred at about 08:30h on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara.
Based on initial police investigations, Nunez and the 19-year-old female suspect, also a Venezuelan national, occupy separate flats of a two-story building at Meten-Meer-Zorg.
Prior to the wounding incident, the two women were reportedly involved in a heated argument that escalated into a physical confrontation. The landlord intervened and subsequently went to the Leonora Police Station to report the matter.
Upon returning, he allegedly observed the suspect holding a black-handled knife while Nunez was lying in the yard with injuries. The Police were immediately summoned.
Nunez was taken to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where she was admitted. Her condition is listed as stable.
The suspect was arrested and remains in custody. .
The scene was processed, and several people were questioned.
Investigation is ongoing.
