Police in Regional Division #3 are investigating the alleged Murder of William Jaris, a 25-year-old from Greenwich Park, East Bank Essequibo. The suspect, Davie Riveia, a 33-year-old Labourer of Ruby Back Dam, East Bank Essequibo, was arrested and is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
Enquiries disclosed that both the deceased and the suspect are well known to each other. They were involved in an argument at a shop in the vicinity of Ruby Bridge. Thereafter, a fight ensued between them. During the fight, the suspect was seen with a knife, and shortly after, blood was seen oozing from the victim’s body.
The suspect then made good his escape on a bicycle, and the victim collapsed. The victim was subsequently rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. Persaud.
The body was examined and three stab wounds were seen: one to the right side of the jaw, one to the chest, and one to the left upper arm.
The body was later escorted to Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The suspect was arrested at his home and escorted to Parika Police Station. An injury/wound was seen above the suspect’s left eye.
He was escorted to the Leonora Cottage Hospital to seek medical attention. Due to the nature of the injury seen on the suspect, he was later transferred to the GPHC and admitted as a patient under guard.
