[www.inewsguyana.com]Guyanese batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan has praised the opening stance put on by the team’s openers for their 114 run win against Ireland in the West Indies Cricket Board, NAGICO Super 50 Tournament.

Speaking to the WICB media, man of the match Sarwan who hammered 89 from 62 balls said that the stance of 129 between Trevon Griffith (62) and the veteran Shivnarine Chanderpaul (79) was key in 301 for three off 50 overs.

He noted that the batsmen that followed had the opportunity to free their hands and did such, with Christopher Barnwell notching up a quick 31 and Leon Johnson a spitfire 27 off 14 deliveries.

On the Bowling end of things, the former Guyana Skipper Sarwan heaped praises on the likes of Ransford Beaton and Paul Wintz who kept the batsmen in check and took scheduled wickets.

Wintz ended with 3 for 30 from 6 overs while Beaton snared 2 for 41 from 7.3.

In the spin department, Narsingh Deonarine bagged 2 for 6 off 2 overs with Veerasammy Permaul and Devendra Bishoo picking up one wicket each as Ireland was rooted out for for 187 in 38.3 overs.

Their next game is set for Tuesday against the defending champions, the Windward Islands.
