Security guard at Amerindian Affairs Ministry assaulted, robbed at gunpoint

Detectives in Regional Police Division 4’A’ are investigating an alleged robbery under arms committed on a 57-year-old security guard at the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, Thomas and Quamina Streets, at about 02:30 hrs today, Monday, August 31, 2026.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim and another security guard were stationed in separate guard huts when two identifiable males, both armed with handguns, approached the victim.

The suspects reportedly assaulted the victim and demanded the keys to two motorcycles parked in the compound. After the victim indicated that he did not have the keys, the suspects relieved him of a cellular phone valued at $30,000Gyd and $7,000Gyd in cash and escaped.

The victim raised an alarm, the police were summoned, and he was subsequently taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he is receiving medical treatment. His condition is regarded as stable.

CCTV footage from the area will be reviewed.

Investigations are ongoing.
