Police are investigating the alleged possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition following the arrest of a 28-year-old contractor from Central Mackenzie, Linden.

On Saturday, August 29, 2026, at approximately 21:21 hrs, ranks on a police operation acted on information received and proceeded to Pine Street, Mackenzie, Linden.

Upon arrival, the ranks observed several men drinking and playing music on the street. The suspect reportedly began acting suspiciously and attempted to leave the area after noticing the Police.

He was stopped and searched, during which a 9mm Taurus pistol, with serial number intact and a magazine containing nine live 9mm rounds, were allegedly found on him.

When questioned, the suspect indicated that he was not the holder of a firearm license. He was arrested and escorted to the Mackenzie Police Station, where the firearm and ammunition were marked, sealed and lodged.

During further investigations on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at approximately 01:00 hrs, ranks escorted the suspect back to Pine Street, where his motor car was parked.

A search was conducted on the vehicle in his presence, during which ten additional live 9mm rounds were found in a compartment between the two front seats.

The ammunition was seized, and the motor car was lodged at the Police Station. The firearm and 19 rounds of ammunition were all marked, sealed and lodged.

The suspect remains in Police custody as investigations continue.
