Scrap Metal Dealer charged for stealing Samsung Cell Phone

[www.inewsguyana.com]A 26 – year – old Scrap Metal dealer of Norton Street, Lodge was refused bail by Magistrate Faith McGusty for stealing a cellular phone.

Cheddi Bacchus pleaded not guilty to the offence, which alleged that on Saturday, December 7 at Alexander and Regent Street, he stole one Samsung Galaxy S2 cellular phone value $150,000, property of Latifa Marks.

According to Bacchus, he came from French Guiana since late July and is friends with the Virtual Complainant (VC) for a number of years. He told the Court that he loaned her a chain with pendant valued $30,000, which she never returned.

Bacchus denied stealing the cellular phone; he held out saying that he borrowed it from her but did not return it since she had his chain.

However, the complainant said, “I did not lend Cheddi any phone it was on my mother stand at home and he took it.

The accused was remanded and he will return to Court on January 23.
