Having borne the brunt of the harsh economic conditions under the APNU/AFC regime, Senior Finance Minister, Dr Ashni Singh, says the people of Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) no longer want to see that party return to government.

Under the PNC-led APNU+AFC Coalition, two of the three sugar estates in Berbice were shut down and thousands of sugar workers were placed on the breadline, impacting their families and communities.

Speaking at the PPP/C’s grand rally at Albion in Berbice, Singh said, “The People of Region Six bore the brunt of APNU’s lack of vision, their incompetence, their blatant political persecution and victimisation of people. You know how it felt to live under the mismanagement and misrule of the APNU+AFC.”

He added, “When the sugar industry was closed, not only did sugar workers feel the brunt of that; every single market vendor, every single taxi driver, every single shop owner felt the brunt of it… And the clear message I heard you say to the APNU+AFC…is never again!”

According to the Finance Minister, the PPP/C is now at its strongest ever and, after delivering promises made to the people of  Guyana over the last five years, the party is ready to continue this work and bring more development to the region and the country.

“We are a party with vision, with credibility and the commitment to deliver. We are a party that has the competence to formulate plans and deliver them to the people of Guyana,” Dr Singh stressed.

This development, he added, can be seen throughout the region with stimulation in its economy in every sector and transformation of people’s lives there.

“As a Guyanese people… never again will [the APNU or AFC] be allowed to hold the reins of the government… On September 1, we must not only return Dr Irfaan Ali and the People’s Progressive Party/Civic to government, we must completely wipe the opposition out,” Ashni declared.
