Reg. 1 female students participate in empowerment session

0

The Education Ministry through its Welfare Department and the Health and Family Life Unit of the School Support Services, facilitated empowerment sessions for female students from Port Kaituma and Mathew Ridge Secondary Schools in Region One (Barima-Waini).

These sessions were held earlier in the week, on Wednesday and Thursday, under the theme, “Books before babies: preventing teenage pregnancy.”

In an era where the foundational structure of human functionality is experiencing erosion, it has become imperative to empower our youth, particularly young women, to make informed decisions for their futures.

During these candid sessions, the young women received education and empowerment regarding sexual misconduct, child sexual abuse, and teenage pregnancy.

The team was led by Deputy Chief Education Officer – School Support Services, Fazia Baksh who encouraged the students to prioritize their education and careers, and to protect themselves from various societal challenges.

The young women were specifically encouraged to report any instances of child sexual abuse.
