A 40-year-old officer attached to the Guyana Prison Service was earlier today (Monday) remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on an assault charge.

REMANDED: George Soloman

George Solomon of Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on October 7 2017 at Camp Street Prison –while on duty- he unlawfully assaulted a Police Constable who was acting in accordance with his duties.

In the courtroom, Police Prosecutor, Richard Harris objected to bail for Solomon, highlighting that the accused was charged once before for a previous case of assault which involved two under-aged females.

As such, bail was refused and Solomon is expected to re-appear on November 6 2017.
