A 77-year-old New Amsterdam man died and two others were hospitalised following a three-vehicle collision along the Farm Public Road, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD). Dead is Balram Ramnarine of Lot 2 Angoy Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne). Police said the accident involved two hire cars, HD 9070 and HD 951 and motor canter GXX 5509.

Ramnarine was an occupant of hire car HD 951, which was being driven by 39-year-old Sheik Mohamed, also of Lot 2 Angoy Avenue. Another occupant of the car, Odesh Mohamed, is also listed as residing at the same New Amsterdam address.

According to Police, following the collision, public-spirited persons assisted the driver and the two occupants of HD 951 and transported them to the Mahaicony Public Hospital for medical attention. Ramnarine subsequently succumbed to his injuries while at the medical institution. Sheik Mohamed and Odesh Mohamed were admitted to at the Mahaicony Public Hospital. Photographs from the scene show extensive damage to HD 951, particularly along its side and upper section, while the other hire car and lorry also sustained visible damage. Police have not yet disclosed the circumstances that led to the three vehicles becoming involved in the collision.
