The Ministry of Housing-Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) has begun to take enforcement action following the unauthorised placement and storage of shipping containers on a residential lot at Parcel 1614, Plot B, Herstelling, East Bank Demerara.
During a visit to the location over the weekend, officers from the Authority’s Enforcement Department observed over 45 shipping containers being stored on the property. No one was present during the inspection.
The activity was found to be unauthorised and contrary to the property’s approved residential use, which is allocated for single-family residential purposes. More importantly, the containers are stacked and pose a safety concern for those close by. Consequently, a Notice of Contravention has been served, directing that all storage activities immediately cease and that the shipping containers be removed within this week.
The CH&PA reminds property owners and occupiers that developments and changes in land use must comply with the relevant planning requirements and approvals.
The Authority will continue to actively monitor housing schemes and take enforcement action against unauthorised development and activities that breach planning regulations or the approved use of residential lands.
