Police capture suspected bandit shortly after robbery; ammunition recovered

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Swift response from the police led to the arrest of a suspected bandit and the recovery an unlicensed 9mm. pistol with five rounds.

Reports indicate that at about10:30hrs on Tuesday April 29, two men, one of whom was armed with a firearm, confronted 34 – year – old Marcel Fitzalbert as he was walking along a road in Festival City, South Ruimveldt and demanded the jewellery he was wearing.

Fitzalbert reportedly put up a resistance and a scuffle ensued between himself and the armed man, during which rounds were discharged. No one was injured, according to the Police.

Ranks of a police patrol in the area responded to the sound of the gunshots and arrested the man who had the firearm. His accomplice managed to escape with a gold chain from the victim.

The suspect is in police custody and charges are expected to be made shortly.
