Under the next People’s Progressive Party/Civic Government, pensioners will be benefitting from an increase in old age pension to some $60,000 at a minimum.
This was announced by President Dr Irfaan Ali, who disclosed that this will see a total of $65 billion – an increase of $18 billion more going to the elderly population. Currently, pensioners are benefiting from $41,000 old-age pension.
Additionally, pensioners will also receive a further $4 billion payout through a $50,000 transportation grant each.
Meanwhile, President Ali also announced the increase of public assistance to $40,000 per person. With public assistance currently at $22,000, this promised increase will see a total of $19 million going to this vulnerable group.
“These three measures alone will be putting back into the pockets of our families and our Guyanese, more than $60 billion of additional disposable income,” the Head of State declared during the PPP/C Elections Rally at Lethem in Region Nine this evening.
According to Ali, “You can be assured your government will implement and deliver this to you, the people of Region Nine and across Guyana.”
