Opposition Commissioners on the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM): Vincent Alexander, Desmond Trotman and Charles Corbin

The Opposition-aligned Commissioners on the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) did not show up to the 23:00hrs meeting called by Chairperson Justice Claudette Singh following the completion of the recount process as was requested by the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU).

The meeting was intended to deal with the certification of the results from the September 1 General and Regional Elections which were held on Monday.

However, the Opposition-aligned Commissioners: Vincent Alexander, Charles Corbin, Desmond Trotman were a no-show.

As a result, the meeting was adjourned due to lack of quorum. A meeting is likely to be held tomorrow, with an adjusted quorum.

Thereafter, GECOM can make its final declaration. A notification will then be sent to the Chancellor of the Judiciary, which will then result in the swearing-in of the President.

President Dr Irfaan Ali has been re-elected to serve a second term.
