In a bid to discredit the recently concluded electoral process and persuade the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) into calling fresh elections, Leader of the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), Aubrey Norton, has claimed that several Statements of Poll (SOPs) were not signed by the respective presiding officers.
In a letter addressed to GECOM Chairperson, Justice (Retired) Claudette Singh, Norton identified five specific SOPs/ballot boxes – numbers 40711, 40728, 40792, 41003, and 41005 – as allegedly lacking the required signatures.
However, a simple verification of these documents – which are posted on GECOM’s website – reveals that each of the cited SOPs does, in fact, bear the signatures of the presiding officers, directly contradicting Norton’s assertions.
