Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred yesterday (Wednesday, June 11, 2025), at about 17:40hrs on the Dun Robin Public Road in Corentyne, Berbice, which resulted in the death of 35-year-old Tameshwar Sukhcharan, a resident of Albion, Berbice.
The fatal accident involved motor pick-up GAK 1990, driven by 30-year-old Andrew Johnson, of Lamaha Park, Georgetown, and a motorcycle (number unknown), which was driven by the now deceased Tameshwar Sukhcharan, and a parked motor lorry (GLL 9958) owned by a 47-year-old man of Yakusari, Bush Polder.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the pick-up, driven by the 30-year-old, was proceeding East along the said road, allegedly at a fast rate of speed, when he attempted to overtake a vehicle and collided with Sukhcharan, whose motorcycle was coming in the opposite direction.
35-year-old Sukhcharan was flung into a nearby trench; he received injuries to his head and other parts of his body. The pick-up then further collided with the lorry which was parked on the southern parapet.
The man was subsequently taken out of the trench in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.
The man’s body is at the Arokium Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The 30-year-old driver of the pick-up, who was also injured, has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital. He received a fractured femur and abrasions on his body. His condition is stable.
The investigation is ongoing.
