The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) swiftly responded to a devastating fire that completely destroyed a two-storey wooden and concrete building at Block 9 ‘C’ Mon Repos during the early hours of Tuesday, October 21.
Upon receiving the report at 01:46 hrs, firefighters arrived on the scene by 01:59 hrs and immediately commenced operations to contain the blaze. The response included Water Tender #124, Water Tender #128, and Water Carrier #23.
The firefighting operation involved Leading Firemen Dickinson, Gillis, and Mayers, along with seven dedicated firefighters, who worked tirelessly to bring the situation under control.
The affected building, measuring approximately 40ft by 60 ft, was home to Mr. Raji Ally (42), Ms. Jennifer Ally (32), and their children Nazem (5) and Azzqat (4). Tragically, the structure and all its contents were completely destroyed, but no injuries were reported.
The Fire Prevention Department has since launched a detailed investigation to determine the cause of the blaze.
