As efforts continue to advance Georgetown’s Beautification and Revitalisation Project, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Priya Manickchand and Minister within the Ministry of Housing Vanessa Benn accompanied representatives of the UK-based King’s Foundation on an extensive walkthrough from the Stabroek Market environs to a section of Water Street on Wednesday afternoon.

The engagement forms part of the Government of Guyana’s broader vision to restore pride in the capital city by creating a cleaner, safer, more resilient and economically vibrant Georgetown for all.

Through collaboration with The King’s Foundation, the Government of Guyana is advancing a shared vision for sustainable cities and towns, in alignment with Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) 2030.

A key component of this landmark partnership is the modernisation and revitalisation of Georgetown through initiatives aimed at strengthening climate resilience, improving urban connectivity, preserving heritage, and fostering inclusive economic growth, while shaping a capital city that reflects the aspirations of a rapidly developing nation.

On Tuesday, President Dr Irfaan Ali received an update from Kings Foundation on its implementation plan for the Georgetown Beautification and Revitalisation project.

President Ali was also briefed on the progress of other climate and sustainable urban development projects being undertaken by the Government in line with the objectives of the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) 2030.

Kings Foundation has been collaborating with the Government on a comprehensive long-term vision to transform the nation’s capital into a resilient, well-connected, and inclusive city
