Minibus driver jailed for death of veteran cyclist Roy Mendonca

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 26 – year – old minibus driver was on Monday sentenced to serve 54 months in prison on a cause of death by dangerous driving charge.

Sookraj Permaul was found guilty by Magistrate Fabayo Azore after a trial was conducted.

He was charged with driving motor bus BNN 6492, in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of a veteran cyclist Roy Albert Mendonca on April 2 2015, at Carifesta Avenue, Georgetown.

Permaul was granted $800,000 bail on his first appearance before City Magistrate Ann McLennan.

Reports indicated that the 67-year-old, who resided at Lot 281 Forshaw Street, Queenstown, was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital  Corporation (GPHC), where he was pronounced dead on arrival
