Lisa Hamilton is set to make history as the first Guyanese to participate in the annual Scuola Pizza Championship which takes place on September 26-27 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Hamilton succeeds Alex Tenorio who is unable to participate for unforeseen reasons. Tenorio had emerged as the winner in the Neapolitan category of the inaugural EU-Guyana Pizza Competition back in June and was slated to represent Guyana this weekend in Argentina. Hamilton had won the Guyanese category and was declared the overall winner after scoring the most points in both categories.
EU Ambassador to Guyana Luca Pierantoni said, “We are delighted to see Lisa Hamilton make history as the first Guyanese to participate in the Scuola Pizza Championship in Buenos Aires. Her participation is a wonderful continuation of the inaugural EU–Guyana Pizza Competition, which celebrated the strong cultural ties between Europe and Guyana through food, creativity and shared traditions. Lisa is an outstanding representative of Guyana’s culinary talent, and we wish her every success as she competes on the international stage. I am confident she will make Guyana proud and use this experience to further enrich the country’s growing culinary sector.”
Lisa is currently the head chef at Herdmanston Lodge and is no stranger to baking and pizza making. At the competition the first place winner will be derived from the highest score by adding the Margherita STG Pizza category – the Contemporary Pizza category, Pizza Romana in Teglia and the Gourmet Pizza category. In the event of a tie, the result will be defined with the score obtained in the Pizza in Pala category. The winner will receive an all expenses paid trip to Italy.
