Police in Regional Division # 7 are investigating an alleged murder which occurred between Saturday February 28, 2026, about 21:30hrs and Sunday March 1, 2026, about 08:00hrs at Granny Road, Sand Hill, Cuyuni River, resulting in the death of a male known as “Mikey,” whose correct name and other particulars are currently unknown.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was residing at a farm at the location along with other workers. On the evening of Saturday February 28, 2026, he reportedly left the camp and went to a nearby shop in the company of another male.
About 08:00hrs on Sunday March 1, 2026, the victim’s lifeless body was discovered at the side of the road, several metres away from the shop.
The body was observed with multiple stab wounds to the upper body and is being escorted to the Bartica Regional Hospital for an official pronouncement. It will subsequently be taken to the Bartica Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Five males, including individuals who were reportedly with the deceased prior to the discovery of his body, have been arrested and are in police custody assisting with investigations.
Investigations are ongoing.
