Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were walking on the southern side of the Kitty Seawall Road, proceeding west, when they were confronted by two identifiable males who had been sitting on the seawall, one of whom was armed with a knife.

The suspects allegedly approached the victims and demanded money. During the incident, one of the victims pushed the armed suspect and attempted to run away, after which he was chased, fell to the ground and was stabbed several times. Both suspects then fled the scene on foot in an eastern direction along the seawall road.

Police arrived at the scene and escorted both victims to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where the injured victim was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and admitted as a patient. He sustained a stab wound to the right side of his chest and his condition is listed as critical.

With the aid of cameras from the Government of Guyana Safe City Initiative, one suspect, a 24-year-old mason of ‘C’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was arrested and is presently in police custody assisting with investigations. Checks are being made for the other suspect.

Investigations are ongoing.
