[www.inewsguyana.com] The Peoples Progressive Party says it is saddened to see how the good name of the Guyana Trades Union Congress (GTUC) being sullied by its General Secretary Lincoln Lewis by his recent ‘private political outburst’.

According to PPP General Secretary Clement Rohee the union is no longer a voice of workers but has been hijacked by a selfish few and is being used as a political forum for grandstanding.

Rohee made the comments at a press conference today (Monday, March 24) at Freedom House, Georgetown.

Lewis, through the GTUC had recently criticized the National Assembly for passing a motion which allows for the restoration of the Critchlow Labour College subvention accompanied by management reform and the recent medical trip by Former President Bharat Jagdeo among others.

“His statements confirm his narrow political agenda, it has nothing to do with workers representation, all it does is advances his personal political agenda” Rohee said.

The PPP GS believes that Lewis is not prepared to ‘walk his talk’, adding that he is in pursuit of a personal ego that is bigger than life.

Rohee rejected Lewis’ condemnation of the motion passed in the House, his stance on the Rusul issue and what he said was the intrusion of the privacy of the former President.

“The PPP wishes to alert Guyanese of these treats and Lewis’ political extremism which has become a danger to the maintenance of peace and good order.”
