Lethem man granted $300,000 bail for drug possession

A 34-year-old resident of Tabatinga, Lethem, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), was on Monday granted bail on a narco-trafficking charge.

Burham Klass appeared at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Allan Wilson and denied the charge which stated that on April 17, at Hunt Oil Stretch, Central Rupununi, he had 7017 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The prosecution is contending that at about 11:50h, acting on information received, ranks went to Hunt Oil Stretch, Central Rupununi, where they stopped a vehicle driven by the 34-year-old man.

A search was conducted and the illegal substance was unearthed.

He was nonetheless released on $300,000 bail pending trial.
