With significantly increased opportunities for tertiary education and training in Guyana, the need for robust, transparent, and internationally aligned quality systems has reached a critical turning point.

To meet this demand, Minister of Education, Sonia Parag, officially launched the Guyana Chapter of the Caribbean Area Network for Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education (CANQATE) today at the Regency Suites.

This strategic move, hosted by the National Accreditation Council, ensures that the rapid expansion seen through initiatives like the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL) scholarship programme is matched by rigorous academic standards.

During the launch, Minister Parag emphasised the government’s unwavering commitment to this balance, stating, “As we expand access to education across Guyana, we must be equally deliberate in strengthening quality. Our goal is not simply to educate more, but to ensure that every qualification earned carries value, credibility, and opportunity.”

She further noted that “quality assurance is how we protect our students, strengthen our institutions, and build a workforce that is prepared to lead Guyana into the future.”

By fostering regional collaboration and institutional strengthening, the new CANQATE chapter will act as a vital framework for maintaining excellence across universities and technical institutes as the nation continues its unprecedented growth.
