[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty – six – year old Orandel Williams was remanded to prison on Wednesday September 18 by Magistrate Judy Latchman for the offences of simple larceny and assault.
Williams of West La Penitence, Georgetown pleaded not guilty to both charges. It is alleged that on September 17 in Georgetown, the accused attacked and robbed Joshwanie Chandrai of one Gold Chain valued $300,000. It is also alleged that on the same day, the accused assaulted Amrita Chandrai. Attorney – at – law Paul Fung- A- Fat represented the accused and made an application for reasonable bail, however Police prosecutor Vishnu Hunt objected to bail noting the penalty attached to such an offence and the quantum involved in the charge.
The prosecutor also noted that violence was used in the execution of the crime and if granted bail the accused will not return to court for trial. Williams will make his next court appearance on September 20. [Royan Abrams]
