Police in Regional Division #10 are investigating the discovery of 35.4 kilograms (78 pounds) of suspected cannabis which was found on Wednesday September 9, 2026, at about 20:30hrs, during an operation at Five Mile, Ituni Road, Upper Demerara River.

During the operation, ranks, acting on information received, observed two motorcycles without registration plates travelling along the roadway. One of the motorcycles was observed carrying several bulky parcels strapped to its rear.

The ranks pursued the motorcycles, during which the rider carrying the parcels fell from his motorcycle and was apprehended. The other rider managed to escape.

The parcels were examined and found to contain a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis. A search of the suspect also revealed $455,180 in cash.

The 40-year-old suspect of Siberia Mines, Upper Demerara River, was arrested and escorted to the Mackenzie Police Station along with the suspected cannabis, cash and motorcycle.

The suspected cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 35.4 kilograms (78 pounds) before being lodged.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
