Police in Regional Division #1 are investigating the discovery of a quantity of suspected uncustomed goods during an intelligence-led operation conducted on Wednesday September 9, 2026, at Turn Basin, Port Kaituma, North West District.
During the operation, ranks conducted a search of a business premises, where a substantial quantity of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages suspected to have been unlawfully imported into Guyana was found.
The goods were taken into possession and lodged at the Port Kaituma Police Station pending further investigations.
A 61-year-old businesswoman of Port Kaituma was arrested and remains in custody assisting with the investigation.
Police are liaising with the relevant authorities as investigations continue.
