General Secretary of the Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) Dr Bharrat Jagdeo – who is also the country’s Vice President – has rapped opposition political parties for “magnifying minor issues” that are rising on elections day.
“There are several reports that are not unusual on polling day and I do not want to elevate them to intractable problems. The other political parties and their leaders are magnifying minor issues and so far, all of those matters have been addressed promptly by GECOM whenever they come up or are identified,” Jagdeo posited.
He said some issues are as minor as a stamp not working or a slight sloth in the voting process – all matters which have been promptly addressed.
“These are normal things that happen,” he reasoned.
Jagdeo also referred to an issue at a polling location in Sophia, Georgetown where Leader of the Opposition and APNU presidential candidate Aubrey Norton “showed up and was trying personally to rearrange the furniture in the polling place”.
The PPP GS reminded that GECOM has already spoken on this matter, adding that Norton “should not have done that”.
