Guyana has won the Best Clean Energy Programme Award at the 2026 Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF) Industry Awards in Panama for the Guyana Utility Scale Solar Photovoltaic (GUYSOL) Programme.
Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Deodat Indar, and GUYSOL Programme Coordinator, Amir Dillawar, attended the forum and received the prestigious award on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
This achievement reflects the leadership of President Dr Irfaan Ali, who continues to advance Guyana’s clean energy transformation through the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) 2030, and Vice-President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo, who pioneered the original strategy and the historic Guyana–Norway climate partnership in 2009.
The GUYSOL Programme, executed by Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL), is financed through Guyana’s forest-climate earnings under its partnership with the Government of Norway, through the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad). The financing is linked to the Guyana REDD+ Investment Fund (GRIF) and administered by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The programme has already delivered five solar farms, adding 18 megawatts-peak of renewable energy capacity, with three additional facilities planned for Linden.
