A young man was killed in the wee hours of Monday, while a teenager was injured after the motorcycle on which they were traveling crashed into a concrete bridge along the Pomona Public Road, Essequibo Coast, Region Two.
The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Tieaveari Goddette of Spring Garden, Essequibo Coast, while the pillion rider, a 19-year-old from Fairfield, Essequibo Coast, remains hospitalised.
Based on reports received, motorcycle CS 3309, which was at the time driven by the teen, was proceeding along the Pomona Public Road at an alleged fast rate of speed and, while negotiating a right turn, he lost control and crashed into a bridge and then into a drain.
The teen and Goddette were thrown onto the surface and sustained injuries to their bodies. They were subsequently picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Suddie Public Hospital, where they were treated and referred to the Lima Regional Hospital.
Goddette, who was in critical condition, later succumbed to his injuries, while the teen was admitted with a broken leg and a broken right arm. An investigation is underway.
