GPL employee slapped with trafficking charge

A Guyana Power and Light (GPL) employee was granted $75,000 for trafficking in narcotics by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Friday.
Levi Chase, 22, of Lot 26 Norton Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown, told the court he is employed as a labourer at the power company.
The man pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on June 22 at Norton Street, he had 20 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers had no objections to bail.

Chase was granted bail and the matter adjourned to July 14. Meanwhile, another Norton Street man Otis Halley, was on Friday remanded to prison by Magistrate McLennan for having 3.832 grams of cannabis in his possession also for trafficking.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that he had the illicit drug on June 22, in the vicinity of Norton Street.
The case was adjourned and the matter will continue on July 14.
