The Tourism, Industry & Commerce Ministry and Culture, Youth, and Sport Ministry on Friday announced that plans are underway at Fort Island to transform the island into a major tourism destination with upgrades aimed at improving access, enhancing the overall visitor experience, and encouraging private sector investment while preserving heritage.
Following the recent Diamond Jubilee Independence Celebrations, which were held on the island for the first time saw thousands in attendance, indicating the potential of the tourism destination and encouraging more people to reconnect with its story and significance.

Private investors have signaled strong interest in building eco-lodges on the island, which will boost visitor spending. In addition, residents will be able to provide meals, supplies, and other services to the increasing number of visitors.
In a social media post, Tourism Minister Susan Rodrigues stated, “Our tour operators also continue to play an important role in keeping the island active on the tourism route, alongside investors supporting ongoing development.
