Sparta Primary School from Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) was crowned the champion of the Guyana National Bureau of Standards’ (GNBS) Academia Quiz Competition 2026, while St. Agnes Primary secured the second spot. The competition, which saw a total of 16 primary schools from Regions 2, 4, 6, and 10, was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
After an intense contest involving St. Agnes Primary (Region 4), Sparta Primary (Region 2), Cropper Primary (Region 6), and Watooka Day Primary (Region 10), the winners were crowned.
The winning school walked away with a trophy and a cash voucher for $50,000, along with the grand prize of a trip for two teachers and pupils for an Essequibo River Tour (including a visit to Fort Zeelandia). The runners-up school collected a trophy and a cash voucher for $25,000.
The Best Performing Pupil, Maanav Mahabir of Sparta Primary School, received a laptop in recognition of his outstanding performance. Tokens of appreciation were also provided to the schools. This year’s competition aimed to promote awareness and understanding of standards, metrology, and the work of the GNBS.
