[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty – three – year old Daniel Baird of Lethem, who escaped from Police custody back in May of this year, made his first court appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Monday, October 19, 2015.

He pleaded guilty to the offense and according to the prosecution, on May 17, 2015 at the Lethem Police Station, while in custody for the offenses of break and enter and simple larceny, he asked to use the washroom, when he escaped.

The Court heard that after some time had passed and there was no re-appearance of Baird, Officers at the station checked the washroom, but to their dismay, he was long gone.

Reports further revealed that the accused swam across the Takatu River onto Brazilian shores. It was not until October 15 that he was later caught by the police, told of the offence and arrested.

He was sentenced to five months imprisonment for the offense.
