Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 23-year-old Alex Jesus Gonzales Beria, a Cuban national and labourer employed by a Construction Company. The incident reportedly occurred between 14:36 hrs and 16:00 hrs on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Muneshwersโ storage compound, located at Lot W9 Houston Road, East Bank Demerara.
The matter was reported to Police at about 08:40 hrs on Thursday, August 27, 2026, and detectives visited the scene shortly thereafter.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a Construction Company contracted by Muneshwers was carrying out landfilling works at the compound, where Gonzales Beria was employed.
According to a 43-year-old Filipino national employed as a machine operator at the compound, he used an empty-container handler to position two 40-foot containers on the western side of the compound between 14:36 hrs and 16:00 hrs on Wednesday. The operator reportedly indicated that he did not recall seeing anyone in the area where the containers were placed.
At approximately 08:30 hrs the following day, employees discovered Gonzales Beria beneath the containers and raised an alarm. The containers were subsequently lifted, and Gonzales Beria was found lying motionless in a pool of blood with multiple injuries about his body. A pair of long boots and a yellow safety helmet were found nearby.
Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned to the scene, and Gonzales Beria was subsequently pronounced dead by a doctor from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
Ranks from the Crime Scene Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters processed the scene.
The body was escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Several staff members were questioned and are assisting Police with the ongoing investigation.
Investigations are ongoing, and further details will be provided as they become available.
