“Continuity and renewal” – PPP presents “winning lists” with youths at forefront

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has presented its various lists of candidates to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), declaring it has the “winning lists”.

The party’s lists include sugar workers, miners, rice farmers, “almost every profession you can think of”, General Secretary Dr Bharrat Jagdeo has said.

The lists also include about 27 people below the age of 25.

The party has noted that its lists are about continuity and renewal.

According to Prime Minister Mark Phillips, the PPP believes in having youths at the forefront of leadership and management of Guyana.

President Dr Irfaan Ali emphasised that the PPP believes in preparing the next generation of leaders, giving them exposure and experience.

“We believe in Guyana, 30-40 years from now and the only way we can deliver that Guyana to successive generations is if we prepare leaders, prepare our young people, if we give them a chance,” President Ali said.

Meanwhile, the PPP GS pointed out that its competitors have nothing to offer.

The APNU and AFC, he said, had five years of failed policies, broken promises and attempting to steal elections whereas US-sanctioned Azruddin Mohamed is marred in criminality.

“Any impartial person in this country who had to choose a political party with a clear conscience would choose the PPP,” Jagdeo emphasised, adding that the PPP is about “bringing people together”.

Predicting a massive victory at the September 1 polls, Jagdeo further explained that “we have the support, but now it’s to translate the support into votes on election day…we have to get people not to be complacent…”

For those who are sitting on the fence, Jagdeo urged “let’s show this country we can break this pattern of racial voting, let’s make this 2025 the year when we do that as a country.”
