Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force Gary Best was today promoted from Commodore to Rear Admiral, the first of its kind in Guyana.
Best has been serving in the Force for the past 33 years and has been the Chief of Staff for six years. He will retire on September 17, this year.
President of Guyana Donald Ramotar expressed gratitude to the new admiral for the service he has provided.
The Army Chief in response to the promotion said it is a testimony to the confidence the Government has placed in him. He also reminded that the GDF is at a point where it is ready for transformation and modernization. [Akash Ramlackhan]
