Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh has announced that the government will be removing VAT on locally-made furniture and jewellery.

With respect to furniture, Dr Singh said the measure will also apply to doors and moulding. He said the objective is to increase competitiveness in the forestry sector and support local manufacturers.

Regarding jewellery, he said the intention is to strengthen opportunities for small and medium sized enterprises.
